Environmental Monitoring

Spea has recently implemented an internal environmental monitoring service for the sites involved in the improvement of the Milan – Naples A1 motorway in the section between Sasso Marconi and Florence-south; the purposes of these activities the implementation of which is planned for all future new works designed, are the following:

	follow-up of works construction through a systematic detection of environmental quality levels;
	guarantee implementation of the environmental prescriptions formulated at project approval;
	inform controlling bodies and the population affected by the works on the trends of the different environmental indicators

Monitoring activities are structured as follows:

	detection of all environmental components affected by the works (mainly air, noise, vibrations, surface and underground waters, vegetation, fauna, physical structure, social-economic issues);
	use of a database- and GIS-based Information System;
	data reliability control through a Quality system;
	identification of eventual impact mitigation activities during works progress.

The Spea structure involved in environmental monitoring consists of a field team, for data collection, and of a group of qualified environmental specialists supported by outside consultants with proven experience in the different environmental disciplines.
The field team avails of a wide range of detection instruments:

	meteorological stations
	air quality detectors
	dust samplers
	sound level meters
	accelerometers for vibrations monitoring
	water sheet level meters
	inclinometer probes
	GPS

The environmental monitoring allows public access to the information and data
